New Media fosters creativity, because of the various ways that you can communicate across the platforms and new technology interfaces we have today. Today's world has become quite technologically savvy, as we're able to successfully utilize the new media we possess in communicating across the world. With such capabilities in communication like this, anyone and everyone can pitch ideas and be as creative as possible which is the beauty of being in a digital era. In fact, a lot of technology companies are supposedly "relying others to innovate for them," as mentioned in the "Twitter Serves Up Ideas From its Followers" article. Claire Miller also states in the article how influential people are due to the power of the internet, as people are exchanging ideas at high rates, and with computing tools at our availability, allows people to create new products inexpensively. Twitter was described as being heavily "user-generated innovation" throughout the article. Evan Williams, one of the founders of twitter states, "Twitter struck an interesting balance of flexibility and malleability that allowed users to invent uses for it that weren't anticipated." Features like the "hashtag" and the "@" symbol with hyperlink, were all ideas that happened spontaneously and wasn't necessarily accepted at first, but people caught on so quickly, that these features became so prominent in our social media use today! It's amazing how dynamic our use of social media can be as it's apparent in the development process of Twitter, as users also were the ones who started the idea of "retweets" and the founder of Twitter was surprised by such creativity and positive feedback process, as he continually wants to better the features in twitter to better suit the interactivity of the users. Overall we are continuing to learn and develop more creative features in our digital world, as people look to further expand ways to digitally communicate across the world.
My research topic is "Social Networking: A Purposeful Loss of Privacy." In this project I will explain how in today's world we have willingly allowed technology and social media to infiltrate our privacy. I will revolve my research around Scholarly articles and credible sources, to emphasize the vulnerability of our personal and private information through social networks. Our mindless clicking, typing, and tapping of screens have made us accustomed to providing detailed information about ourselves to get access to social media. Social Networking is an activity that our society is heavily engrossed in, and it has also defaulted us into losing our privacy. With every post, every update, every picture, every tweet, we're giving away our privacy.
Hi Rahiq!
ReplyDeleteInteresting post regarding the exchange of creativity - I always saw new media as a method of fostering it, but never realized that it's essentially some form of commodity. You mention that companies rely on innovation, and I guess I just never noticed that. It always seemed like marketing was an inhouse creation, but the reality is, the inspiration comes from the consumers themselves. And of course, with the hashtag, companies can tag along and hone in on these trends. It's about how fast and uniform the involvement is at the end of the day. Great post!
Hi
ReplyDeleteYour post is very interesting. I never really consider how companies rely on innovations but when I look closely at Snapchat and Facebook we can see how users are the ones who initiate a new trend or creation.
