Blog: P2P

File sharing is a process where data can be allocated across a network for user to user who has privilege to access the content that is being shared. File sharing is best known for being able to distribute content between "peer to peer" as phrased by the writer of the article, "Content Producers should take advantage of P2P, not fear it." This follows up with another definitive New Media term, "P2P," file sharing as stated earlier stands for "Peer to Peer." P2P file sharing is very significant as it is capable to cater to big audiences. In the article, it displays how influential P2P file sharing is. An example of P2P file sharing was demonstrated in the article where it was stated that P2P file sharing, "...played a part in bringing people into the massive swarm of sharers that has helped us reach more than 2m downloads and an estimated 3m viewers in the 18 months since the film's release." The documentary, "Steal This Film-Part One" was shared across millions of users/viewers through their website, "The Pirate Bay", along with other smaller blog sites. To be able to accumulate such a large viewing is incredible and truly upholds the significance of P2P Sharing and the power of it to be able to send a message to millions of people. P2P file sharing really revolutionizes the way you can communicate with people, as you are able to effectively reach out to people all over the world through the network. Another example of P2P file sharing is the Lending Club. In an article written by Wendy Kaufman, she explains about the largest peer to peer lending site. According to the article, the Lending Club is a site which gathers borrowers and lenders together, outside of a conventional banking system.  The Lending Club offers an alternative for people to seek out loans, where they feel more comfortable borrowing from one another within this club. CEO of the Lending Club, Renaud Laplanche, says that, "investors make a nice profit, but consumers still get lower rates than they would with a conventional lender because peer-to-peer lending operates like a marketplace." P2P lending allows a friendly environment for people's financial purposes, allowing a more relaxed process for getting loans  without the worry of getting a good fixed-income investment by those lending the money. Overall P2P sharing is extremely powerful, as it's way to gather people in large numbers and be able to communicate and help one another accordingly.

HW Creativity

New Media fosters creativity, because of the various ways that you can communicate across the platforms and new technology interfaces we have today. Today's world has become quite technologically savvy, as we're able to successfully utilize the new media we possess in communicating across the world. With such capabilities in communication like this, anyone and everyone can pitch ideas and be as creative as possible which is the beauty of being in a digital era. In fact, a lot of technology companies are supposedly "relying others to innovate for them," as mentioned in the "Twitter Serves Up Ideas From its Followers" article. Claire Miller also states in the article how influential people are due to the power of the internet, as people are exchanging ideas at high rates, and with computing tools at our availability, allows people to create new products inexpensively. Twitter was described as being heavily "user-generated innovation" throughout the ...

Project Description

My research topic is "Social Networking: A Purposeful Loss of Privacy." In this project I will explain how in today's world we have willingly allowed technology  and social media to infiltrate our privacy.  I will revolve my research around Scholarly articles and credible sources, to emphasize the vulnerability of our personal and private information through social networks. Our mindless clicking, typing, and tapping of screens have made us accustomed to providing detailed information about ourselves to get access to social media. Social Networking is an activity that our society is heavily engrossed in, and it has also defaulted us into losing our privacy. With every post, every update, every picture, every tweet, we're giving away our privacy.
